Description

The oval was one of the first aluminum carabiners manufactured in the US in the 1960s. It is a classic traditional carabiner, a functional design that has stood the test of time. A major benefit of using a ''true'' oval carabiner is that it is very difficult to load incorrectly and the forces tend to ''self-equalize'' between the pulley and other equipment, ropes and anchors. Balancing the load equally on the spine and the gate allows the carabiner to maintain full strength under a variety of conditions. The frame is slightly asymmetrical (flattened) for increased strength. Ovals are most often used in critical climbing or rescue applications where a stuck gate must be avoided, and then are always used as pairs, rigged opposite/opposed.
